OTTAWA, ON. — The St. Laurent Shopping Centre has asked Ottawa city council to approve a zoning application so it can begin a massive expansion. The proposed construction project would see the leasable area in the mall more than double to 170,000 square metres.
Most of the growth would happen on the west side of the mall and would make St. Laurent the tenth largest shopping centre in Canada.
Staff have recommended councillors approve the application, but some nearby residents have expressed concern about increased traffic in the neighbourhoods.
The planning and environment committee will consider the application during a meeting next Tuesday.
