Immigrants hoping to become Canadian citizens may soon have to prove they can operate in English or French.
Proposed changes to citizenship rules would require prospective Canadian citizens to give written proof.
Immigration Minister Jason Kenney says it’s unacceptable that Canadian citizens who’ve lived here for many years can’t express themselves in one official language.
He says that limits their social mobility and their lives in Canada.
