The “queen of disco,” Donna Summer, passed away Thursday morning after a battle with cancer at the age of 63.
Summer’s family said her funeral will be held on Monday in Nashville, Tenn.
The impact of Summer’s landmark hit “Love to Love You Baby” was huge. Although it only featured a little heavy breathing and suggestive lyrics, it was very racy for the day. This was long before Rhianna and Lady Gaga.
Summer was a five-time Grammy winner who shot to superstardom in the 70s with that sensual sensation “Love to Love You Baby” and her other iconic hits like “Last Dance,” “Hot Stuff” and “Bad Girls.”
She continued dominance in the 80s with “She Works Hard for the Money” and “this time i know it’s for real.”
Summer was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach number one on the U.S. Billboard chart.
Summer and her producer Giorgio Moroder defined the dance music era of the 70s and influenced acts like Duran Duran and David Bowie to enter the genre.
Summer married Brooklyn Dreams singer Bruce Sudano back in 1980. They had two daughters together.
