Having a disability doesn’t prevent you from being an Olympian.

That’s the message behind Kids of Action, a free e-book dedicated to Canada’s summer Paralympic team.

The online picture book tells the story of two children with disabilities, who overcome obstacles to compete in swimming and track and field.  It also explains how different parasports are played and how to get involved.

Blind Paralympian Amy Kneebone is heading to London for her second games as a member of the Canadian Goalball team, and says it’s a must read for kids, parents and teachers.

“No matter what type of barriers your need to overcome to achieve a goal, as long as you’re willing to work at it, you can accomplish whatever you want,” she tells 1310News.  “And that’s whether you have a disability or not.”

Teammate Whitney Bogart adds it’s about time the Paralympics got some attention.

“I think it will, for sure, help people become more aware of people with disabilities, their training and the hard work they also put in to be able to compete for their country.”

Kids of Action is available as an e-book or as an audio book, read by Paralympian wheelchair racer Josh Cassidy.
