Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins have agreed to a contract extension worth $104.4 million over 12 years, according to Sportsnet.
Reports indicate the Penguins will announce the deal with their captain as early as Sunday, when the widow opens for Crosby to agree to a new deal.
Crosby, 24, is entering the final year of a five-year-contract that carries an annual cap hit of $8.7 million. The new deal, which will begin in the 2013-2014 season, will also average a cap hit of $8.7 million per season.
The deal is the longest and richest in Penguins’ history.
Crosby’s last two seasons in the league were ravaged by a concussion suffered in January 2011, and Crosby has missed over 100 total games over the two years as a result.
