TORONTO, Ont. – A hand sanitizer is being recalled over fears of microbial contamination.
Kimberly-Clark is recalling its Kleenex-brand Luxury Foam Hand Sanitizer, after testing detected a possible bacteria contamination that could pose a serious risk to people with weakened immune systems.
People with the lung disorder cystic fibrosis are especially vulnerable, according to Health Canada.
The recalled product comes in one-litre and 1.2-litre containers, as well as being used in large-volume dispensers found in public areas and workspaces.
The recall affects approximately 430 containers distributed to retail stores and wholesalers across Canada.
Anyone who has purchased the product should remove it from use while people with weakened immune systems are being warned to avoid using unmarked hand sanitizers.
The bacteria detected, from the Burkholderia cepacia group, should pose little to no threat to healthy Canadians.
