OTTAWA – It was a busy Canada Day for the Ottawa Senators.
In their biggest move, Ottawa traded forward Nick Foligno to the Columbus Blue Jackets for 27-year-old defenceman Marc Methot.
Foligno played five seasons with the Senators. He had 15 goals and 47 points last season.
Methot, an Ottawa native, was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 6th round in 2003. He had 7 points in 46 games with Columbus last season.
Meanwhile, the Senators also added forward Guillaume Latendresse to a one-year deal worth $1.25 million.
Latendresse will be looking to get his career back on track. He missed 50 games due to a concussion last year. His best season was in 2009/10 when he put up 40 points.
Also Sunday, Ottawa signed defenceman Mike Lundin to a one-year deal while agreeing to a three-year, entry-level contract with prospect Shane Prince.
As expected, the Senators lost a few players to free agency.
Filip Kuba signed a two-year deal with the Florida Panthers worth $8 million, while Zenon Konopka agreed to a two-year contract with Minnesota.
Additionally, the Sens lost gritty defenceman Matt Carkner to the New York Islanders.
