Ottawa is feeling more like an oven these days and that has prompted the city’s Medical Officer of Health to issue a heat warning.

The warning is in effect for Friday and Saturday because the humidex is expected to top 40 for both days.

The city is reminding people to drink a lot of water,  wear light and loose clothing, and spend a few hours in an air-conditioned place like a mall or community centre.

You can also cool down at the city’s pools, wading pools, splash pads, and beaches.

You’re also being asked to avoid strenuous activity and keep an eye on family, friends and pets who may be vulnerable to the extreme heat.

1310 Meteorologist, Jill Taylor, says there’s not much relief in sight, with only a slim chance of isolated showers this weekend.

The lack of rain, coupled with the extreme heat, has prompted the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority to encourage residents along the watershed to cut their water consumption by 10 per cent.
