OTTAWA – For the second time in less than a week, someone has been revived after being found at the bottom of a pool.
Just after 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon, paramedics got a call about a woman who was unconscious after lifeguards pulled her from the bottom of a pool at the Nepean Sportsplex.
Lifeguards started CPR and used a defibrillator. They continued CPR after it was determined the defibrillator wasn’t needed.
When paramedics arrived shortly after, the woman was struggling to breathe on her own.
She was then treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital where she is currently in serious condition.
“It was kind of shocking at first because we had no clue what was going on,” said swimmer Emily Shearer. “We just looked down and we saw a limp body at the bottom of the pool … we just kind of went into shock.”
Last Friday, a quick thinking lifeguard rescued a lifeless four-year-old boy from the bottom of a wading pool at the Michele Heights Community Centre, in the city’s west end.
It was the lifeguard’s first day on the job.
