OTTAWA, Ont - Residents in a west end neighbourhood were allowed to return to their homes Thursday night after a mysterious police investigation forced an evacuation.
Officers were called to Arbordale Crescent around 7:30 p.m.Wednesday for a disturbance. When they arrived, they found what they believe to be explosive materials. Arbordale Crescent was closed at both intersections of Centrepointe Drive during the investigation, but has since re-opened.
Acting inspector John McGetrick told 1310News 14 homes in the neighbourhood were evacuated as a precaution.
Police have one man in his twenties in custody, but will not reveal his name and no charges have been laid. A neighbour told 1310News police have been called to the home in the past.
The police investigation also involved a grey Ford Focus parked outside the home.
Ottawa Police including the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) team, removed materials from a a residence late Thursday night which caused the closure of Woodroffe Avenue north of Hunt Club Road.
The possible explosive materials were taken to the Experimental Farm for safe disposal, but shortly after several people took to twitter to report a “loud bang” coming from the area. Police would not comment on what caused the bang.
