OTTAWA- The days of reading a print copy of the Ottawa Citizen’s Sunday paper while drinking a cup of coffee have come to an end. The local newspaper put out its final print edition of its Sunday paper this week.
After 24 years, the Ottawa Citizen will have its Sunday stories strictly online.
This cut is part of a number of changes being made by Postmedia Network Inc, which owns the newspaper, as well as the loss of 20 jobs.
The move has left mixed feelings from people on Elgin Street.
“I’m more than happy to go online on Sunday or read the paper on Saturday” said one woman.
One man said he, “likes the old print versions because it helps promote community” and refers to senior citizens who gather to read and discuss news in the paper.
To make up for the change, the Saturday print edition will have more content and include some of the features typically found in Sunday’s copy, like the obituaries.
