OTTAWA, On. — The scorching temperatures that have been baking the National Capital Region have forced authorities to declare level 2 drought conditions for the area.

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority made the decision after a meeting on Friday.

This means residents are being asked to voluntarily cut their water use by 20 per cent because there are minor issues with the water supply.

1310News meteorologist Harold Hosein said we can expect some rain in the next few days, but it will only be enough to tease the crusty brown grass.

Sunday’s forecast high is a tad cooler than Friday and Saturday topping 30 degrees with a humidex of 36.

Up until Friday, residents had been asked to only cut their water consumption by 10 percent.

The RVCA told 1310News that unless the capital region gets a significant amount of rainfall in the coming days, they will be forced to upgrade drought conditions to level three by Friday.
