OTTAWA, Ont. – Another day of scorching heat and oppressive humidity is on-tap for the Capital and Eastern Ontario.  Monday’s Guaranteed High is 32, with Humidex values expected to get close to 40.

Environment Canada has issued a humidex advisory for Ottawa, Gatineau, and most of Eastern and Southern Ontario.  The advisory came as Ottawa’s Medical Officer of Health issued a Heat Warning.  You are being advised to drink plenty of water, get into air conditioning as much as possible and avoid strenuous activity outdoors.

A trip to the beach is one way to cool off.  The City says all five beaches — Britannia, Mooney’s Bay, Westboro, Petrie Island East Bay, and Petrie River –  are clear for swimming.

Rain is forecast for Monday evening and may mean a little bit of relief, but it comes with a catch.

“It will be less humid (Tuesday)…of course with the thunderstorms, lightning can set some fires,” said 1310News meteorologist Jill Taylor.

The rainfall is welcome, but won’t be nearly enough to top up wells and creeks, and get them where they should be.

Temperatures are expected to stay in the high 20s for the rest of this week.
