OTTAWA – The union representing Ottawa firefighters said more training is needed to prepare for brush fires in the wake of the Moodie Drive brush fire.
The Ottawa Professional Firefighters Association said more resources may be needed to deal with brush fires the massive fire that was finally put out on Tuesday.
First sparking on July 12th, the brush fire that affected 100 acres lasted nearly two weeks and was out of control for several days.
Currently firefighters are trained to deal with structural fires and aren’t as well prepared for brush and forest fires.
Another major concern for the union is that the equipment used by Ottawa fire is not designed for this type of blaze.
The Moodie fire was one of many brush fires that firefighters were faced with during the dry weather throughout July.
A review of the efforts during the massive blaze is on the horizon.
