LONDON, England – A dark cloud continues to hang over the London 2012 Olympic Games as rows of seats remain empty at stadiums despite crowds lining up to buy tickets.
Britons say they are shocked and upset at how big a problem it has been so far.
It is averaged that 60,000 seats a day have remained empty since the start of the Olympic games.
Fans looking to get tickets to events are seething with anger.
“I come here, I want to get in and I can’t. I get told there are no tickets. I’m fuming,” said one man.
“I’ve got cash in my pocket, I want to buy a ticket and I can’t. There’s empty seats in the stadiums and I can’t get in,” said another man.
“I think it’s pretty stupid. They might as well just let somebody in to fill up the space. Why not me?” asked nine-year-old Natalie.
While more unused tickets are being made available on the official Olympic Games website, that too is being slammed.
“It’s not user friendly. You go on there, you think you’ve got your ticket, you’ve got your credit card in your hand, and they say no tickets found,” one man explained.
“We want to be a part of history and haven’t had the opportunity to be,” said one woman.
Officials say they are scrambling to turn unused tickets into available seats and have reduced the number of tickets allotted to VIP’s.
However, some Britts are calling this situation a national embarrassment.
