OTTAWA, Ont. — A rollover involving a tractor-trailer caused traffic tie-ups and closed part of Cumberland Street between Rideau and Besserer Tuesday morning.

While the crash made a mess of the street, incredibly, the driver walked away without a scratch.

“The driver’s fine; he’s been checked by the paramedics and he’s quite healthy,” said Lt. Brian Lascelles of Ottawa Fire.

The rollover happened as the rig was turning left from Besserer onto Cumberland.

“We believe…the problem is equipment,” said Lt. Lascelles. “Either a tire or the suspension was too stiff on the vehicle.”

Speaking in French, the rig’s driver said he’s been driving tractor-trailers for five years, and insists that he did not take the corner too fast.

Three very large tow trucks had to be brought in to get the truck and its load back up on its wheels.
