TEXAS – A gunman who was being served an eviction notice is dead after he was killed in a shootout near a Texas University.

Two others are also dead, after police said the man opened fire from inside his home as a law enforcement officer served the notice.

Brazos County Constable Brian Bachmann was among the three people killed, according to local police authorities.

“Brian Bachmann was very close to everyone in law enforcement, he was a pillar in this community. It’s sad and tragic that we’ve lost him today,” police said.

The gunman and a 65-year-old man were also killed in the incident, while a woman and three other law enforcement officers were also injured.

It’s reported that Constable Bachmann went to the off-campus home of the gunman, which is near Texas A&M University’s football stadium, to serve the notice.

Numerous other officers responded to the scene and shot down the gunman after receiving a call for an officer being down.

The shooting prompted Texas A&M to send out an alert warning students and residents to stay away from the area.
