The mayor of Saguenay, Quebec, is being asked to apologize for a remark he made about a Parti Quebecois candidate from Algeria.
Mayor Jean Tremblay is upset at Djemila Benhabib (je-MILL’-ah ben-hah-BIB’), who came to Quebec in the 1990′s.
In the past she’s been opposed to keeping the crucifix in the national assembly, although now she accepts it.
Tremblay told a radio station “I don’t like that these people come here and try to impose their rules.”
P-Q leader Pauline Marois is calling on Tremblay to apologize.
