TORONTO, Ont. -Remains found in Scarborough over the weekend have now been confirmed as human, Peel police said Monday.

Police said these remains have “obvious similarities” to the discovery of a head, a foot and two hands found in Mississauga’s Credit River last week.

Two pieces of possible human remains were found over the weekend in Scarborough — one on Saturday and one on Sunday.

On Saturday, a man came across remains while looking for golf balls at the Tam O’Shanter Golf Course, while on Sunday, a suspicious-looking plastic bag was found in a creek.

Peel Regional Police Sgt. Pete Brandwood said investigators aren’t in a position right now to disclose what body part was found in the bag.

Peel police Const. George Tudos of Peel Regional Police said they were contacted by Toronto police but it is not clear whether the find is related to a body parts investigation in Mississauga, where a human head, hands and a foot were found in and near the Credit River.

“They have been in contact with our investigators and we are working together,” Const. Tudos said. “The investigation within Toronto has to do with something that has be found or something in the nature that may be suspicious.”

An investigation is ongoing near Credit River and Hewick Meadows Park to determine whether the body parts found belong to the same victim and who the victim is.
