OTTAWA – A man was sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries Tuesday afternoon, after a stabbing in Westboro. The man in his mid-thirties, was stabbed multiple times in the face and neck.
He was found on a 7th floor apartment on Van Lang Private, near Churchill and Scott Street, and then rushed to hospital.
Inspector Chris Renwick tells 1310News a thorough investigation by forensics will provide more information.
“We don’t know who is responsible for it,” says Renwick. “The motivation for it or whether the persons were known, we just don’t know that right now.” Police blocked off the 7th floor of the building during the investigation, but from the stairs splatters of blood were visible in the entrance of unit 702.
Police haven’t laid any charges in the stabbing yet. Neighbours say apartment is troubled
Residents tell 1310News the building has a lot of drug use and violent activity. As police scoured the apartment, many tenants of the building congregated in the hallways and some hung over the side of balconies, chatting with neighbours below about the stabbing.
Marian Ivey is has lived in this building for years and tells 1310News she is upset but not surprised by this incident. “There’s always the smell of narcotics in the elevator,” say Ivey. “Police have been here numerous times.”
Another resident Donna Richards says her building is becoming more dangerous and says she feels scared.
This is supposed to be our home,” says Richards. “We’re supposed to feel safe and secure and we don’t!”
