A Mississauga family says it is desperate for some answers after the death of a 22-year-old man on vacation in Cuba.

Canadian citizen Horace Odaine Lumley died after falling from a balcony Wednesday at the Barcelo Solymar Arenas Blancas Hotel in Varadero.

The Toronto Star reports the young man was there with a group of co-workers on what his family says was his first real vacation.

His half-sister told the Star that the last time he was seen alive his co-workers had left him behind at the hotel with a young woman he had met at the resort.

When they returned he had fallen nearly 16 metres from a third-floor balcony.

At first the friends thought it was an accident but they have since become suspicious because of several oddities, including the whereabouts of the young woman he had been seen with.

Also suspicious was the fact that the SIM card of his cell phone had been cleared when it was returned.

Canadian authorities say they are working with Cuban police to complete the investigation.

Lumley had been working in sales and was supposed to begin an electrical engineering course at Humber College in the fall.
