GATINEAU, Que.- A number of  tombstones in a Gatineau cemetery were vandalized over the long weekend.

Police believe the 86 tombstones were vandalized sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Lieutenant Yves Comtois of Gatineau Police told 1310News that three suspects are thought to have been involved.

A staff member at the St-Francois De Sales Cemetery notes this as the worst act of vandalism he’s ever seen at the site.

If caught, the suspects could face charges of mischief over $5,000.

The total damage is estimated at $50,000.

Gatineau Police continue to investigate.
