There are only five days to go until another NHL lockout … not a lot of time to get a deal done.

Saturday is deadline day: get a deal done or it’s lockout time. But now we’re hearing the NHL players are still willing to play and continue to negotiate if an agreement isn’t reached by the 15th.

“I do think they’re fairly genuine to say that but they’re more than willing to keep playing while they negotiate,” Jim Lang with Sportsnet 590 The Fan said. “That definitely is playing up to the fans, make no mistake. They’re saying ‘wait a second, we want to play, we want to give you hockey but the owners are not letting us.’”

The money is still the major issue, specifically hockey-related revenue.

The NHL and players association are still very far apart when it comes to the money — and what constitutes hockey-related revenue.

The two sides met face-to-face for the first time in more than a week on Friday. Then the talks went quiet over the weekend.
