OTTAWA, Ont. — OC Transpo is boosting service to Orleans to try and make the trip home easier for eastbound commuters, while the 174 sinkhole is under repair.

Almost a week after it swallowed a car and shut down the highway, the infamous crater continues to be a traffic nightmare with no escape.

With the eastbound lanes out of commission between Montreal Road and Jeanne D’Arc Blvd. for at least another few days, some drivers are trying to avoid the bumper to bumper traffic by using city streets.

But with so many commuters trying to find a way home without the highway, the back routes are getting just as crowded.

In the hopes of easing the traffic headache, OC Transpo has announced that four more buses, including two new double-deckers,  will be in place during peak periods with express service to Orleans.

City officials say the buses will save time and aggravation because they take the transitway to the east end.
