OTTAWA, On. — The 174 sinkhole is dead.  Long live the sinkhole.

After almost two weeks of traffic chaos and commuter headaches, the eastbound lanes of Highway 174 have reopened between Montreal Road and Jeanne D’Arc Blvd.

“It wasn’t perfect,” Orleans councillor Bob Monette told 1310News. “Residents went through a lot of tough times for the last two weeks. Hopefully we learned from this and hopefully it will never happen again on the 174. That main road disrupts our whole community.”

One lane of the Jeanne D’Arc off-ramp has also been re-opened, with the final repairs expected to be wrapped up early this week, weather permitting.

The area had been closed to traffic ever since a massive sinkhole opened up and swallowed a car on Sept. 4.
