OTTAWA – Facebook has teamed up with double lung transplant recipient Helene Campbell to launch a new social networking tool.

The Ottawa native gained international attention after appearing on Ellen and getting a retweet from Justin Beiber.

More than 4,500 people in canada are waiting for organ donations and the goal of the campaign is to encourage users to give the gift of life.

Helene is thrilled to help kick start this new tool.

“It gives hope and settles the fear of maybe I won’t get an organ,” said Campbell.

Campbell has met many celebrities throughout her campaign, but she said the greatest moment for her was waking up after the surgery.

“Ultimately, you’re put to sleep and you don’t know if you’ll ever wake up again. I woke up and that’s when I realized I’m alive because of a gift that someone has passed along.”

To register, click on the life events icon above your status, then go to Health and Wellness then become a donor.

Since its launch in other countries, 275,000 people have signed up.
