The operator of the Navan Animal Rescue Corporation (NARC) has been charged by the Ottawa Humane Society after repeated complaints about mistreated animals.
Since 2005, the OHS Rescue and Investigation Services team has received 13 complaints and visited the location 35 times, most recently this past August.
The OHS says their investigation found dogs forced to live outdoors with little or no shade, with others housed in crates, packed into a trailer for up to 24 hours a day with no water and temperatures reaching 25 degrees. Many of the dogs were suffering from dental, eye and skin diseases. The property was also home to sheep, goats, horses and guinea pigs.
Michelle Mayer will be in court in December on four charges of failing to provide adequate standards of care.
