OTTAWA, Ont. – Ontario Liberals are reflecting on the year that was at their annual general meeting.
Held at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa, the convention includes Premier Dalton McGuinty’s leadership review.
In what could be seen as an independent review of the Premier, members of the teachers unions will be staging a rally outside the hotel. Teachers will be joined by members of OPSEU and CUPE, to voice their displeasure with the provincial Liberals.
Head of the Ottawa and District Labour Council, Sean McKenny, said the goal is to send a message.
“Workers aren’t happy,” he told 1310News. “They’re tired of being picked on. They’re tired of having their rights thrown out the window.”
Liz Harrison of CUPE told 1310News, she expects thousands of supporters to join the rally.
Protesters are angry about recent wage freezes for teachers and public sector workers. The rally is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday.
