“Canada’s Sweetheart” and legendary figure skater Barbara Ann Scott died Sunday.
Born in Ottawa, she was a four-time Canadian figure skating champion, and Olympic gold medalist at the 1948 Winter Olympics.
She also won the first World Skating Championships for Canada in 1947, and was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 1955.
Other accolades include the Order of Canada, and the Order of Ontario. An arena was also named after her in Ottawa.
Scott was last in Ottawa this summer, when she was honored with the Barbara Ann Scott Room at City Hall which displays her accomplishments.
The cause of death was unknown.
She was 84.
