OTTAWA – Things are bustling at the Ottawa Food Bank as donations are delivered, organized and boxed up for those in need this Thanksgiving weekend.

On Friday, volunteers and staff had a helping hand from a couple Canadian Olympians from the London 2012 games.

Montreal wrestler Martine Dugrenier and Kingston marathon runner Dylan Wykes were in their red and white Team Canada gear as they unpacked and sorted through donated goods.

“It’s a way to give back to a community,” Dugrenier told 1310News. “Some people don’t have the opportunity to celebrate with their family. It’s great to be here and maybe they will have a better Thanksgiving.”

Wykes added it’s nice to help out this way to let people know Team Canada is grateful for their support.

“As athletes we spend most of our time training, but when you can make a little time in your day, every little bit helps,” said Wykes.  “It’s great to be here and lend a hand. Hopefully it helps other people to enjoy their Thanksgiving weekend.”

The food collected is distributed to 140 programs across the city, including the Ottawa Mission, which will use some of the donations towards their annual Thanksgiving dinner.
