The prisoner who gave birth to a baby boy in a jail cell at the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre did not get to see her baby boy on Saturday as planned.
Julie Bilotta was scheduled to visit the baby at 10:00 a.m. but her mother, Kim Hurtubise, tells 1310News the visit was cancelled at the last minute.
Hurtubise says a guard from the jail called Bilotta’s boyfriend to tell them they wouldn’t be able to attend the jail today for security reasons but wouldn’t explain it to the family further.
“We were all really looking forward for her to see him today,” says Hurtubise. “It’s an awful thing that she can’t see him.”
Hurtubise says the baby was bundled up and they were already in the car about to leave her Cornwall home.
“I don’t know anymore,” says Hurtubise with heavy sigh. “They’re trying to keep her from seeing her baby.”
