2000 workers at the X-L Foods beef packing plant in southern Alberta have been given temporary layoff notices.

Doug O’Halloran of the United Food and Commercial Workers says he expects many of the workers won’t be able to wait until federal regulators allow the plant to begin selling meat again.


The plant in Brooks, Alberta has been idle since September 27 while federal officials and the company deal with the on going e. coli the contamination.
