OTTAWA-With construction finally getting underway on Monday, there could soon be another court battle over the redevelopment of Lansdowne Park.
In a memo sent out to media late Tuesday night, lawyer Rick O’Connor says the city is expecting a Supreme Court of Canada challenge from John Martin, one of the central figures behind the Lansdowne Park Conservancy.
The group wants to see an open competition for the project, along with a toned down version of the city’s plan with Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group to renovate Lansdowne Park.
In the memo, O’Connor says it would be very difficult for the case to be appealed, and the Supreme Court of Canada should rule on whether or not it will hear the case early to mid next year.
He says the redevelopment of Lansdowne Park will continue uninterrupted.
