Highway 17 is now back open near Pembroke following a crash that killed one person.

The accident between a tractor trailer and a pick up truck around 9:30 a.m. Saturday on Highway 17 at the intersection of B-line Road.

The driver of the tractor trailer was headed east on the highway when he crashed into the pickup truck.

Neither he nor his passenger were hurt.

However, 58-year-old Brian Pratt of Deep River -the driver of the pickup- was pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway was closed until 2 a.m. Sunday.
