Ottawa Centre MPP Yasir Naqvi has announced he will not seek the leadership of the Ontario Liberal Party.

In a statement released Sunday morning, Naqvi calls it a personal decision.  He says while he believes in the Liberal party and is proud to be a member of the team, he is, first and foremost, a father to his five-month old son.

Naqvi joined 1310News live Sunday afternoon to talk about his decision.

“This was a very personal decision for me. It was just only five months ago that I got a new job and that is to be a dad to my son Rafi,” Naqvi told 1310News. “I feel very important that that is my first and foremost responsibility and of course to serve the constituents of Ottawa Centre.”

Naqvi also said he is committed to his role as MPP and provincial party president and looks forward to his role helping to organize the leadership convention.
