OTTAWA, Ont. — The coroner’s office has called for an inquest into the death of an Ottawa toddler two years ago.
Jeremie Audette, 2, drowned in an above-ground pool at an unauthorized daycare in Orleans on July 28, 2010. The operator, Wendy Andruszka-Lapierre, was fined $2,000 last September and given 12 months of probation for running an illegal daycare centre.
The inquest will get underway November 26, and is expected to hear from 23 witnesses over the course of 15 days. It will examine the circumstances surrounding the toddler’s death, and make recommendations on how to avoid similar tragedies.
