Citizens and dignitaries alike have said a sad goodbye to Hon. Lincoln Alexander at a state funeral in his hometown of Hamilton on Friday.
Alexander died last Friday at the age of 90.
He was the first black member of the House of Commons and first black lieutenant-governor of Ontario.
His state funeral was held at Hamilton Place Friday afternoon.

Funeral procession details:
12:30 p.m. – The procession will form at Hamilton City Hall. The procession will travel east on Main Street to John Street, head north on John Street to King Street, past the Cenotaph, and continue west along King to Hamilton Place.
1:00 p.m. – Procession arrives at Hamilton Place
1:15 p.m. – Doors open to public
2:00 p.m. – Doors close
2:30 p.m. – Funeral service begins
Public Access:
- Several hundred members of the public will be able to attend the funeral
- Members of the public who wish to see the service must line up in Commonwealth Square. City of Hamilton staff will begin handing out tickets at 1:15 p.m.
- Chairs will be made available for the public to listen to a live audio feed of the service in Commonwealth Square
- Those lining up for entry to Hamilton Place or in Commonwealth Square to listen to the program should dress appropriately for the weather and bring umbrellas in case of rain
