OTTAWA, Ont. – The winds were howling overnight in eastern Ontario and west Quebec, and while Ottawa escaped the brunt of Sandy’s effect, her presence was still felt in the capital.

The impact of the storm on our region has left air travellers frustrated with cancelled and delayed flights. Porter Airlines scrubbed all flights to Toronto from Ottawa until noon Tuesday.

Many flights from other seaboard cities were also cancelled, but some flights are still on the board.  Click here for a list of delays and cancellations at the Ottawa Airport.

However, with the special weather statement that had covered the region now lifted, it does seem like the worst is behind us.

“The wind is gusting out of the east/northeast at 55 km/h,” said 1310News meteorologist Jill Taylor. “At 3 a.m. Tuesday, we had wind gusts up to 69 km/h. So we will gradually see the wind diminish as we move through the day.”

Jill told 1310News, she doesn’t expect Ottawa to get much rain Tuesday; possibly 10 millimetres for the day.

Further east in southern Quebec, there could be some heavier bands of rain anticipated later on Tuesday, depending on how the storm shifts.
