VARS, Ont – A porch fire at a home near Vars, east of Ottawa, caused around $25,000 damage.

Firefighters got the call to the home on Saumure Road, between Russell Road and Devine Road, just after 1 a.m. Tuesday.

They had to battle flames that were fueled by the strong winds.

The flames were kept from spreading from the porch to the attached house.

The cause is under investigation.
