OTTAWA – Bystanders jumped into action to help save the life of a 20-year-old woman Wednesday night at Algonquin College.

The woman had a heart attack shortly before 7:30 p.m. in the college’s athletic dome.

CPR was performed, until fire fighters showed up with a defibrillator.  They administered one shock to the woman’s heart, then paramedics issued another shock once they arrived.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support medications were also given, and in combination with the shocks, her heart started.

She was breathing on her own when taken to the hospital.
