OTTAWA, Ont. – Roughly 50-60 fire fighters spent more than 12 hours dumping water on an abandoned school building on the Old Rockcliffe Armed Forces Base.
They were called to the base around 3:15 a.m. Monday, after flames spread through the building.
Firefighters doused hotspots in an effort to keep the flames away from nearby grass fields. The fire was in a decommissioned area and crews had to have water transported from Montreal Road.
It’s not clear what sparked the fire. There are no injuries reported.
Meantime, a man, 46, was treated for smoke inhalation in hospital after a fire at a highrise apartment building on Fisher Avenue, near Baseline Road Sunday afternoon. There is no word on a cause or a damage estimate.
A woman, 84, was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation after her home caught fire early Sunday morning.
Firefighters were called to a bungalow on Flewellyn Road near Dwyer Hill Road around 7:30 a.m. Damage is pegged at $400,000.
The cause of a kitchen fire at the Montana’s Cookhouse on Innes Road is under investigation. Fire crews were called to the scene around a 5:45 a.m. Sunday morning and brought the fire under control in 15 minutes. There were no injuries and a damage estimate hasn’t been released.
