SURREY, B.C – An Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer who was killed in a fiery crash in British Columbia Tuesday morning, went to high school in Ottawa.
Adrian Oliver, 28, was a second generation Mountie. His father is a senior officer in Ottawa and his twin brother serves on British Columbia’s lower mainland.
Oliver began training with the RCMP in 2008; he was first posted to Surrey in 2009.
Oliver’s unmarked police car collided with a semi-trailer around 5 a.m. Tuesday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The R.C.M.P. is continuing their probe into the crash, but charges aren’t expected.
The last Mountie to die in line of duty in Surrey was John Baldwinson, who was killed in a crash in October 1975.
Public Safety Minister Vic Toews says the death of Constable Oliver is very sad for all Canadians.
