OTTAWA, Ont. — Waving flags and signs and chanting “No justice, no peace,” the voices of about 150 protesters could be heard through the streets of downtown Ottawa, as they denounced the ongoing violence in Gaza.
The group marched from the Israeli embassy to the Prime Ministers Office and then to Parliament Hill, calling for an end to Israeli attacks in Gaza.
Waving a Palestinian flag, Aziz said Israel must stop the violence.
“Everyone came out today to say this is not okay and the Canadian government standing behind this is not okay. People will not stay quiet about this,” he told 1310News amid the crowd of chanting protestors. “There’s no food, no medical supplies entering the Strip. (Israeli forces are) just bombing schools and hospitals, so even if you have injured people, there’s no place to take them because there are no hospitals now.”
Rabbi Dovid Feldman travelled from Montreal to speak out against the conflict.
“This wrong according to Jewish belief, to Jewish tradition,” he said. “It is not the will of all Jews worldwide.”
But on a few occasions people walking or driving by stopped to argue in support of Israel, saying the country has a right to defend itself from terrorist attacks that have killed many innocent civilians.
