OTTAWA, Ont. — OC Transpo officials have identified the problem that caused exhaust fumes to leak into a new double decker bus, sending one driver to hospital.
“It turns out that there was a defective gasket seal,” transit commission chair Diane Deans told 1310News. “OC Transpo has basically put in an override to ensure that the buses are all safe.”
The driver was briefly hospitalized, but has since returned to work. Two other drivers complained of exhaust fumes on board the bus, but did not require medical attention. There were no reports of any passengers falling ill.
“I think this was specific to three buses,” Deans said Friday. “It’s an interim fix, but (OC Transpo is) now proactively inspecting all the buses.”
The defective seals are being replaced by the engine manufacturer.
