OTTAWA, Ont. – Despite promises the Plasco facility would soon be reaching a deal with the City of Ottawa, there is still no answer as to why the garbage-to-energy proposal still hasn’t been put into effect.

The two sides continue to negotiate the deal, which calls for Plasco to accept 300 tonnes of garbage daily, in exchange for $9-million a year of taxpayer money.

Plasco would then use their technology to super-heat the waste, creating a synthetic gas which powers electricity generators.

Environment Committee Chair Maria McRae said she anticipates a deal is coming up, naming mid-December as the timeline.

The statement comes almost a year after council’s vote to make a deal with the company.
