ONTARIO- The province has given a thumbs-up to two agreements between high school teachers and their boards.

Premier McGuinty says he’s taking it as a sign that more deals can be reached — and that the school year can be saved from further strike actions.

His comments come after five school boards managed to reach tentative agreements with the province and two of those deals –York Region School Board and Upper Grand School Board — got the government’s blessing.

McGuinty — who is demanding a two-year wage freeze — says those agreements could serve as a template for other boards and teachers.

Meantime, talks were back on for teachers in the captial on Tuesday night.

An emergency meeting was called between the Ottawa Carleton District School Board and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation, although no agreement was reached.

Board Chair Jennifer Mckenzie says she is pleased talks have resumed and further are planned.

There will also soon be talks with the Elementary Teachers Federation for Ontario.
