OTTAWA, Ont. – The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board and The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation have successfully negotiated a tentative agreement for secondary teachers.
The two sides were in negotiation until 4:00 a.m. Thursday morning.
“This is great news for our students,” said Board Chair, Jennifer McKenzie. “Our Board has a very strong commitment to student achievement and well-being. Our teachers are critical to our success.”
The OSSTF District 25 President Dan Maxwell said in a statement, “I believe our members will be satisfied that this agreement meets their needs under their challenging circumstances. We appreciate the Board’s efforts in working together with us to achieve this tentative agreement.”
The OCDSB confirms to 1310News that the agreement means all sanctions are off the table as of 8 a.m. Thursday. Secondary school teachers within the OCDSB will resume coaching extra curricular’s, completing all sections of report cards and monitoring lunch hours.
The agreement will be sent to the Minister of Education for approval as required by the Putting Students First Act and also has to be ratified by union members. It also needs the approval of the Board of Trustees. The details of the agreement will remain confidential until ratified by the parties.
There are still six other bargaining units the board is working to reach deals with this week, five of which are in legal strike position.
