HAWKESBURY, Ont. — The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in after a B.C. man was injured while in Hawkesbury OPP custody Wednesday.
The man had been arrested for impaired driving following a crash on County Road 17 in Champlain Township. Police say that as they were bringing the suspect to the station, the man damaged one of the doors of the police cruiser. Once the man was booked, he continued to hit the door of his jail cell, suffering what police describe as a “moderate” injury.
Kristopher Andrie, 31, of Abbotsford, British Columbia has been charged with impaired driving, two counts of mischief, having alcohol while driving and driving without a license.
The SIU is called in whenever someone is injured, sexually assaulted or killed in an incident involving police.
