The 2012 international white ribbon campaign to end violence against women kicks off Sunday.

The campaign is a world wide effort to eliminate men’s violence against women.

To show support, everyone is urged to wear a white ribbon starting today, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, until December 6, Canada’s national day of remembrance and action on violence against women.

Ottawa police will be supporting the initiative.

Police chief Charles Bordeleau says the campaign is important because it sends the message that violence against women is unacceptable and won’t be tolerated by our society.
