Illegal marihuana grow operations are popping-up all across the nation.
To tackle the ever-expanding problem, a national coalition was launched on Thursday designed to prevent, detect, and deter criminal activity related to marijuana grow-ops and clandestine mines.
The National Council Against Marihuana Grow Operations and Clandestine Labs is made-up of 12 community-based organizations in partnership with law enforcement.
Public Safety Minister Vic Toews said, “By working together, we can better address the threat these operations pose to the safety and security of our communities.”
The council identified 3 priorities;
- Raise public awareness to protest Canadians and their homes
- Engage stakeholder and decision markers to promote coordinated national solutions
- Promote a multi-sectoral approach to address the negative social, economic and environmental impacts
